The Centre's Volunteer Literacy Support program has been operating now for 5 years.
In that time many people have been matched with a trained volunteer tutor in Benalla and Wangaratta.
Generally meeting for an hour or so once a week, the tutor and learner work on agreed activities to enhance the learners literary skills.

Some of the people who have been assisted over the past year include

A woman in her early 20's who needed to confidently read and comprehend a manual when she was promoted in her worksplace.

A man in his late 30's starting work with a farmer and preparing for the written work in an apprenticeship.

A woman in her 30's, active in a number of community groups, wanting help with writing so that she could produce better meeting minutes and newsletters.

A woman in her 50's struggling with the literacy demands of a course in aged care.

A man in  his teens, with good reading skills but very poor writing skills wanting to successfully complete VCAL.

If you, or someone you know, would like to get more information about how literacy skills can be enhanced through the Volunteer Literacy Support Program.
